Who We Are.

Everyday, LoNia’s World Center works to serve and connect young adults with disabilities with career training and social events to create a vibrant community filled with opportunities for fair employment. We serve as a voice for our community, as we seek social equity, inclusion, and employment for all abilities.

Our staff is driven by our mission to serve and connect young adults with disabilities with career training and social events. We create a vibrant community filled with opportunities for fair employment.

How We Began.

In 2018, Tanya Henry, recognized the need for peer-to-peer social activities for her son, Micheal. She began organizing social events to improve the social wellbeing of the young adults with disabilities.

Over the years, her events developed a following of over 150 guests, and she has raised over $20,000. As this community as grown, so did the vision. Tanya Henry is a certified Instructor/Proctor for Servsafe and a long-time hospitality industry expert with over 20 years experience. She immediately saw the need for employment training for adults with disabilities. LoNia’s vision and mission evolved to address this transition needs of young adults with disabilities.

Our preliminary focus currently involve peer to peer social events but now is transitioning into training and job placement within the culinary and hospitality industry. Understanding that at the age of 26 all young adults with disabilities will all face a transition out stage. For most: no furthering their education, no more school dances, no more field trips, no more job site visits and no job training and/or placement.

With every dollar that is invested into our young adults, LoNia’s organization will be able to create new opportunities for learning, working, and living. Our programs are designed to empower and improve the lives of thousands of disabled young adults with disabilities and their families. We offer advocacy, support, and information on empowerment in achieving independence from a peer to peer viewpoint.

Many young adults with disabilities want to remain involved with the community and participate in social settings. This is exactly what we can provide through our different programs because our purpose is to enrich the lives of the participants, build upon their strengths and skills, and provide plenty of social interaction.
